The side event is an opportunity for SPIA and two CGIAR centre case study leaders to present the major results of an initiative undertaken to document the impacts of policy-oriented research in the CGIAR. An earlier exploratory study had been undertaken to assess the extent and nature of existing documented evidence of policy-oriented research (POR) impacts within the CGIAR and concluded there was a need for additional case studies of the impact of POR in the centres, to augment the evidence and to further the development of methodologies in this challenging area of impact assessment. Seven Center case studies were selected under Phase II of this study and this session will summarise the overall findings and report in more detail on two of these studies, one from ILRI and one from CIFOR.
